Grande Prairie and Area Council on Aging (GPACA) is a non-profit organization that supports local seniors through our programs, resources and community connections.

About Us

GPACA is located in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and provides services for the geographical area through programs like Outreach and Meals on Wheels. Operating since 1982, our goal is to build programming to support aging adults, their care givers and work with community partners in a holistic manner to support seniors to thrive in all ways of well being and independence.

Our Programs

GPACA provides support to seniors through a variety of programs, including Outreach, Meals on Wheels, and Elder Abuse Awareness.

We also offer an all-year tax clinic, senior social engagements, a yard gnome program, and more programs.

There are two benefits that one can apply for, they are both income tested.

  • Alberta Senior Benefits, Single income of $33,770 and Couple combined income of $56,820.
  • Guaranteed Income Supplement, Single taxable income must be below $22,056, if a partner receives full Old Age Security income must be below $ 29,136.

If you’re on Alberta Senior Benefits, you will have Group 101 coverage” which likely refers to the Alberta Dental Assistance for Seniors Program, specifically. This program provides financial assistance for eligible seniors to cover dental expenses. Participants in this program are identified as “Group 101” when submitting claims to Alberta Blue Cross.

You can volunteer by calling our office, we have various events throughout the year. You would need a vulnerable sector check and criminal record check.

You can apply for early CPP starting at age 60. Old age security and Guaranteed Income Supplements and Alberta seniors benefits at age 65.

No, you don’t have to apply for Alberta Blue Cross Coverage for Seniors when you turn 65. It’s an automatic program that Alberta Health adds to your AHCIP account on the first of the month following your 65th birthday. You will need to provide proof of your age, but you don’t need to apply for it.

A package with information about the program may be mailed to your address on file with Alberta Health, up to 3 months before your 65th birthday.

Hot meals are made at the QEII and are delivered from Monday to Friday, once a day between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm. There is also a frozen meal option through the frozen meal program, that is prepared at the North 55 Community Centre. There is a per meal cost, please contact us for current pricing and meal options.

Frozen Meal Info:
Meals on Wheels is now offering frozen meals. Orders are taken on a weekly basis then delivered once a week. Dietary restrictions are not options, but often gluten free is available. This is food to fill your tummy and give you a well balanced nutritious meal. Contact our office to register/place your order.
